Antai Creek: A Scenic Spot Extended from Dahu Park
As a famous scenic spot in Taipei City, Dahu Park is frequently visited every weekend by a high volume of visitors, who usually spend half a day there to enjoy the beautiful view combining the lake and hills. However, not many people know that in the vicinity of Dahu Park, there lies Antai Creek that features a different but unique type of scenery. To arrive at the bank of Antai creek, onto Kanghu Rd. from Chenggong Rd. Then, make a right onto Antai St. The creek is approximately 500 meters ahead after you pass the Dahu tunnel. As autumn approaching, residents are invited to stroll or cycle along the trail by Antai Creek and enjoy the fresh breeze of the quiet countryside.
Antai Creek is located on the west side of Neigou Creek watershed. Its flows from Lane 146 of Kangle Street to the end of Lane 131 of Antai Street, spanning about 1800 meters in length. It was once troubled by floods from overflowing water due to the insufficient cross-section in the creek and serious silting of washed sand. Under the principle of “Safety-based, Ecology-oriented”, the Geotechnical Engineering Office devised a new plan that effectively contained the entire watershed area. The plan fulfilled the requirements for safety, scenery and industry by the implementation of necessary dredging, carried out on a planned budget, which helped to preserve the environment for farm production around it while ensuring the safety of residents living downstream.
Antai Creek is located near residential areas. Hence, the Geotechnical Engineering Office placed a high level of importance on the principle of “Safety-based, Ecology-oriented” in the dredginge project. After the dredging, not only the natural eco-system had been restored, it is now capable of nourishing the agricultural production. Small countryside roads were connected to the Neigou Creek to form this new scenic spot for recreation in Neihu District, satisfying people who are passionate about getting close to nature.
Huang Li-yuan, Director of Geotechnical Engineering Office, stated that the countryside road along the restored Antai Creek offers beautiful scenery with densely growing trees. Walking along the road and enjoying the cool autumn in the midst of the scenery of urban farmland (?), flower fragrance and birds singing, will be a truly refreshing experience.
The Geotechnical Engineering Office deems the scenery surrounding Antai Creek suitable for everybody, for it is not only an scenic spot extended from Dahu Park but also a path to the natural scenery of Neigou Creek. On the scenic road along the creek, residents can not only breathe in phytoncides, which are rarely scented in urban settings, but also enjoy the beautiful view of natural woods and greenness. There are also aquatic plants, such as wild ginger lily and oriental cat-tail, along the creek, as well as plants like garden balsam and ferns. So, why not set aside an entire day for a trip to Dahu Park and the nearby Antai Creek to enjoy it’s amazing natural scenery?
